On November 9, 2021, the Bloom Syndrome Association participated in a think tank hosted by the University of Pennsylvania’s Orphan Disease Center (ODC). The impetus for this event was an anonymous donation to the ODC in direct support of Bloom syndrome research. The purpose of the event was to identify gaps in our understanding of Bloom syndrome and practical areas of investigation for developing treatments for Bloom syndrome and its complications—especially cancer.
Participants included an international team of clinicians and academic researchers who described what we know about Bloom syndrome and discussed the most important questions that remain unanswered. The ODC is using this information to put out a Request for Application early in 2022 to fund research projects to pursue those answers. The BSA is proud to partner with the ODC’s JumpStart Program in this and any future venture to advance Bloom syndrome research.
Stay tuned for more information!
